It was a Saturday like no other in the Steil bouldering gym. The excitement was palpable as the Boulder Bundesliga got off to a brilliant start. A full house is a good description, as the action started in the morning. However, this was no comparison with the evening that lay ahead.

The surprise of the day

Short-notice announcements gave us goosebumps: The elite of German boulderers would be holding a rendezvous. Alexander Megos, Yannick Flohé and Jan Hojer – names that are otherwise only known from the front pages of climbing magazines – suddenly turned up at Steil. The fans were beside themselves with excitement and the rumor mill was buzzing: who would win?

Ladies’ duel in a class of its own

The air was just as electric in the women’s competition. With Helene ‘Heli’ Wolf and Daria Nesterenko, you could already imagine an exciting final. Then Roxana Winand was spotted among the participants – so it was clear that the final would also exceed all expectations.

A top-class final

The strongest German climbers showed moves that some had thought impossible. The male finalists had asked us for really difficult final boulders and their wish was granted. It quickly became clear that it was a neck-and-neck race between Alexander Megos and Yannick Flohé.

The women’s competition was no less exciting: the first boulder demanded a lot from the athletes and took a lot of energy. Lucie Molitor also showed what her biceps are made of here.

An event that was more than just a competition

What we experienced on Saturday was more than just a competition. It was a demonstration of passion, strength and community.
